For many people when they hear of Colorado one of the first things they think of is skiing. While skiing and other winter sports are a big part of Colorado, there are also many other things to do in the Aurora area.
There are numerous events and light displays in the area for the holidays. Since the weather does not get extremely cold it is possible to spend time outside and also to explore the many shops and restaurants. From Aurora it is less than an hour drive to the Rocky Mountains. The Denver Zoo is open throughout the entire year so you have the opportunity to experience it in the winter months instead of normally only in the spring and summer. There may be different animals since they are open during the winter also.
The area has four distinct seasons but the winters are not too cold. The average low temperatures are 16 degrees and the average snow fall is 63 inches. The winter weather in Aurora is mild to cold with periods of snow but does have warmer weather when they get the Chinook winds. You get the taste of some snow but not large amounts like some areas of the country. If you want more snow, it is easy to go higher into the mountains.More info here: How Well Do You Know Winter Sports?
